This week I want to talk about getting caught up with everything around us. Specifically in the gym, competition is great but if you are chasing plates because the guy across the gym is benching 315 and you can only get 135. You are just going to get discouraged. Maybe he has been benching for 10 years and you’ve only been in the game for 2 or 3 years. If you get up in constantly comparing yourself to others, it can feel defeating. Now don’t get me wrong, I want myself and everyone to have the mindset to be the best. The best in everything you do, but it takes time to be the best. Patience and consistency. If you are patient and consistent, you will eventually catch up with that guy or girl, but for now the only person you can compete with is yourself daily. We have to strive to be better than we were yesterday. If we continue to compete and develop ourselves to be the best version of us daily, the growth will compound. It is good to have goals and aspirations to eventually reach the levels of others, but if we are patient and consistent with our efforts, we can far exceed our own expectations. It starts though with focusing on ourselves, putting on the blinders to those around us, so as not to get discouraged and overwhelmed. Take it one day at a time giving max effort, fighting through the good days and the bad days, and consistently being disciplined toward our goals. If each night you can look in the mirror and say to yourself that you gave it your best, then it doesn’t matter what everyone else is doing. So today and everyday be honest with yourself, push to be better than the day before, and as always be relentless!
Get After It,
